Casino Promotion Times Converted to Australian Time Zones

Last updated · by the Aussie Top Casinos editors

Promo deadlines and daily resets are usually set in UTC or Central European Time. Here is how to convert them for every Australian state, with a table for both halves of the year.

Offshore casino promotions are rarely written in Australian time. Daily free spin drops, weekly reload windows, tournament finishes and bonus expiry are typically set in Coordinated Universal Time (UTC) or Central European Time (CET), because that is where the operator, its licence or its software platform sits. For Australian players, that turns “midnight” into mid-morning, and the gap changes twice a year in Europe and twice a year in parts of Australia. Getting it wrong can mean claiming a reload after it has closed, or missing a tournament's final hour.

Australia's time zones in brief

Australia uses three standard time zones on the mainland:

  • Australian Western Standard Time (AWST): UTC+8, used in Western Australia.
  • Australian Central Standard Time (ACST): UTC+9:30, used in South Australia and the Northern Territory.
  • Australian Eastern Standard Time (AEST): UTC+10, used in Queensland, New South Wales, the ACT, Victoria and Tasmania.

Who uses daylight saving

Daylight saving runs from the first Sunday in October to the first Sunday in April. During that period New South Wales, Victoria, Tasmania and the ACT move to Australian Eastern Daylight Time (AEDT, UTC+11), and South Australia moves to Australian Central Daylight Time (ACDT, UTC+10:30). Queensland, Western Australia and the Northern Territory do not use daylight saving, so Brisbane, Perth and Darwin keep the same offset all year.

The NSW Government states that daylight saving starts at 2am AEST on the first Sunday in October and ends at 3am AEDT on the first Sunday in April. For the current season that means 4 October 2026 to 4 April 2027.

Europe changes clocks on different dates

Many casinos quote CET, which becomes Central European Summer Time (CEST) in the northern summer. European summer time starts at 01:00 UTC on the last Sunday in March and ends at 01:00 UTC on the last Sunday in October. That does not line up with Australia's changes, which creates four separate periods each year for anyone converting CET to Sydney or Melbourne time:

PeriodSydney / MelbourneEuropeSydney ahead of CET by
First Sunday in October to last Sunday in OctoberAEDT (UTC+11)CEST (UTC+2)9 hours
Last Sunday in October to last Sunday in MarchAEDT (UTC+11)CET (UTC+1)10 hours
Last Sunday in March to first Sunday in AprilAEDT (UTC+11)CEST (UTC+2)9 hours
First Sunday in April to first Sunday in OctoberAEST (UTC+10)CEST (UTC+2)8 hours

For 2026–27 the European dates are 25 October 2026 and 28 March 2027. In Brisbane, which stays on UTC+10, the gap to CET is simply 9 hours in the European winter and 8 hours in the European summer.

Key point: find out whether the promotion is set in UTC or in CET/CEST before converting. UTC never changes; CET shifts by an hour in late March and late October, and the eastern states shift in early October and early April.

Conversion table: common reset times

Most daily promotions reset at midnight UTC or midnight CET. This table shows what those moments are in each capital.

Reset timeSydney, Melbourne, Hobart, CanberraBrisbaneAdelaideDarwinPerth
00:00 UTC, April to October10:00am AEST10:00am9:30am ACST9:30am8:00am
00:00 UTC, October to April11:00am AEDT10:00am10:30am ACDT9:30am8:00am
00:00 CEST (late March to late October), Australian winter8:00am AEST8:00am7:30am ACST7:30am6:00am
00:00 CET (late October to late March), Australian summer10:00am AEDT9:00am9:30am ACDT8:30am7:00am

The CEST row covers April to early October; for the short overlaps in October and late March/early April, use the 9-hour gap from the earlier table. All times are on the following calendar day in Australia: midnight Monday in Europe is Monday morning in Australia.

Worked examples

Weekly reload ending Sunday 23:59 CET

A reload offer reads: “Available from Friday 00:00 to Sunday 23:59 CET.” In January, CET is UTC+1 and Sydney is on AEDT (UTC+11), a 10-hour gap. Sunday 23:59 CET is Monday 9:59am in Sydney. The offer opened at Friday 00:00 CET, which is Friday 10:00am in Sydney. A Perth player sees the same window as Friday 7:00am to Monday 6:59am.

Daily free spins at 00:00 UTC in July

A casino credits daily free spins “at 00:00 UTC, valid for 24 hours”. In July, Sydney is on AEST (UTC+10), so spins arrive at 10:00am and expire at 9:59am the next day. In Adelaide (ACST, UTC+9:30) they arrive at 9:30am. In Perth (UTC+8), 8:00am.

A tournament across the October change

A tournament runs from Monday 12 October to Sunday 1 November 2026, ending at 20:00 CET. On 25 October Europe leaves summer time. The finishing time is therefore 20:00 CET (UTC+1), which is 19:00 UTC and 6:00am AEDT on Monday 2 November in Sydney. Had it ended a week earlier, under CEST, the same 20:00 would have been 5:00am in Sydney.

Reading time wording in bonus terms

Terms describe time in a few standard ways. Typical wording includes:

  • “All times are in UTC unless stated otherwise.” Convert with a fixed offset for your state and season.
  • “Times refer to CET.” Check whether the operator means CET all year or switches to CEST; most switch without saying so.
  • “The bonus expires 7 days after it is credited.” This is counted from the crediting moment, not midnight, so note the time it arrived.
  • “Promotions reset daily at server time.” Ask support which zone the server uses and get the answer in writing.

Expiry is the most common trap. If a no deposit bonus is credited at 10:15pm AEDT and “expires after 72 hours”, it ends at 10:15pm three days later, whatever the promotion's daily reset time. See our guides to casino bonuses, free spins and no deposit bonuses for how expiry and wagering interact.

Weekly and monthly cycles

Daily resets are only part of the picture. Many promotions run on weekly or monthly cycles, and the time zone shifts the day as well as the hour.

Weekly cashback and reloads

A cashback offer calculated “on net losses from Monday 00:00 to Sunday 23:59 UTC” starts at 10:00am Monday in Sydney during AEST, or 11:00am during AEDT, and finishes at the same time the following Monday. Bets placed on Monday morning in Sydney before 10:00am still count towards the previous week. For a Perth player the week runs from 8:00am Monday to 7:59am the next Monday all year round.

Monthly promotions and leaderboards

A monthly leaderboard that ends at “23:59 CET on the last day of the month” closes on the first morning of the next month in Australia. In February, with CET at UTC+1 and Sydney on AEDT, that is 9:59am on 1 March in Sydney, 8:59am in Brisbane and 6:59am in Perth. A player who logs on after work on 28 February in Sydney still has the rest of the evening and the following morning.

Birthday and VIP rewards

Rewards tied to a date, such as a birthday bonus, are often credited according to the server's calendar day. An Australian birthday can therefore start in the morning or even arrive a day late on the casino's clock. If the terms say the reward must be claimed “on the day”, ask support which time zone defines that day.

Practical tips

  • Set your phone's world clock to UTC and to a European city such as Berlin or Malta, and compare it with yours.
  • Write promo deadlines into your calendar in local time as soon as you see them.
  • Recheck recurring promotions in early October, late October, late March and early April.
  • Queensland, WA and NT players only need to track the European changes; the rest of Australia must track both.
  • When the terms are unclear, take a screenshot of the support answer on time zone.
